Okay, so this post may not be "woeful" really, I just enjoyed the alliteration.
Let's be honest...who doesn't enjoy the occassional alliteration?
Anywho, for those of you who don't know, I am engaged (as of January!) And I may not have mentioned this yet but we DO have a date set!
March 10, 2013 will be the day.
We have our venue (In the Garden at Casa Bella Village)...but that's about it. Oh and I have my invites ordered which I'll share with you when I get them!
*Just a little look at the space*
At first I thought...man we have plenty of time to get all of our wedding ducks in a row. But I fear that's not so much the case.
On the plus side, I have picked my dress, now I just have to get my measurements taken and get it ordered. Yes...I won't be trying it on first! *insert fear here*
I've never thought about all the bits and bobs that are involved in planning your OWN wedding.
Our budget is slim, and it's just me and my mom doing it all, so there's a lot of pressure there.
Luckily...it's a small wedding...so we won't require an abundance of "things" for it.
The next things we'd like to decide on is catering and the flowers. Most importantly...the flowers. The venue and my whole "vision" of the wedding is rustic/vintage and natural. Yellow and white is the color scheme. So I'm looking for flowers that are yellow and white! At first I wanted sunflowers but sadly they aren't quite in season in early March so I'm on the hunt for large or large-ish flowers that I can get in yellow and white! Here's what I'm thinking so far...
Mums will be my "go to" I think but I'm open to suggestions ladies!
So needless to say...we've got a lot of planning to do...but luckily we still have a good amount of time to work through the kinks.
And no...I have no idea what I want for a cake! Yikes...
Do you have any wedding websites for smaller wedding planning? I'm looking for info for "the basics" nothing that is a huge event.
I'll take any ideas/suggestions/horror stories that you want to share!
Talk to you soon!!
Gerberas are like giant daisies :) You can get them in yellow for sure - I think they come in white but I'm not sure - if you want to dress it up you could have white/yellow roses and your bridesmaids could have white/yellow gerberas (not sure how they'd look together)
ReplyDeleteMy friend had a bouquet of magenta/dark pink gerberas for her wedding and they looked awesome (gerberas don't have strong stems so they have to be wired or have a bouquet that goes along your arm rather than stands up in your hand (does that make sense lol.)
Cake wise - for our wedding a family friend did our cake (it was our present from her to us) - I can suggest so many people but they are all here in the UK :( If you're doing it on a shoe string you could try getting a plain sponge or similar cake from a supermarket or a store (we looked at Marks and Spencer for my friend's wedding here in the UK I don't know if you have something like that). It's a basic sponge or fruit cake and it's iced - you then add your own decorations - it's simple, it's on a budget but it still looks nice :)
That space looks so beautiful for a wedding! My husband and I, along with my mom, planned and executed our small (50 people) wedding on our own as well so I know how stressful it can be.

Definitely check out Intimate Weddings if you haven't yet. It's specifically designed for people who don't want a massive event: http://www.intimateweddings.com
ReplyDeleteFor the flowers, one thing you can always do is order them from the grocery store. One of my friends did that for her wedding and you couldn't tell at all. Her mom and some aunts put all of the centerpieces and bouquets together the morning of. I'm not really a flower person so I can't tell you what will be in season, but anything you get from there will be WAY cheaper than going to a real florist, so you might be able to get whatever you want after all.
The cake: when you order it, don't say it's for a wedding. Say it's for an anniversary party or something. Most places have "special" rates for wedding items, so just pretend it's not!
For the cake-- since you're already in Florida, check out the cakes at the Bubble Room on Captiva Island. They are divine and they ship them anywhere!!!
ReplyDeletePlanning a wedding must be so much fun! I love the flowers in the photos ;).
ReplyDeleteI used to have a weekly feature I called "Weddology" where I posted about ideas for weddings. That was over 2 years ago, I think. But I'm sure you already know the blogs I posted about.
Can't wait to see the invites! :)
Happy midweek, Jenna! :p
I have absolutely NO experience with weddings at all so I can offer no advice. I wanna see the dress!!!!!!!!!! I'm such a girl, at weddings I just care about what the bride wears :) Best of luck getting everything done.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I can offer suggestions on cake. Weddings, I don't know a lot about but I do have a TON of experience regarding cake. Maybe you could get a family friend to make a bunch of cupcakes and arrange them nicely instead of a cake. That's quite popular. And I feel like it'd be easier than an official wedding cake.
I can't believe it's already been 4 months that you've been engaged! Time is flying, it seems like I just read the announcement :) A favorite site of mine was Offbeat Bride. Pinterest wasn't around back then, but maybe that's a good thing. It was pretty low key and casual, more of an emphasis on partying with friends :) And we definitely kept the budget SLIM! That's a good thing- weddings get ridiculously out of hand these days... Can't wait to see what comes together for you!
ReplyDeleteRandom, but have you seen this person's website? http://dreamsarenecessary.blogspot.com.au/
ReplyDeleteShe puts up pictures of a lot of stuff that I think you'd like. I don't know why I'm encouraging you to spend money :)
Congratulations on being engaged!! Such fun, stressful times! Haha. It was basically just me and my mom planning my wedding too and we did it in 6 months (and on a slim budget as well)! I love your location it looks absolutely gorgeous! I think the flowers are perfect. Pinterest is always a good place for more inspiration! :)
