Happy Tuesday (4 more days until the weekend!)

Cat Nip and Chew Toys,

Jenna

Happy Memorial Day!

Fun was had by all today, my better half and I had a cook out with my parents, though hot as all get out it was fabulous (it helped that we were inside in the A/C while chowing down!)

I wanted to take this time to say a special thank you to a few veterans -

My grandpa - Walter F. Ashe - rest in peace grandpa not a day goes by that I don't think of you!

My brother Michael - even though your tattoo you got while you were in the Navy is covered up now (with an amazing tattoo) I still think of it like you still have it!

And last but certainly not least - my beau Mark - if it wasn't for the Navy stationing you here in lil' ol' Jacksonville we would've never met!

So, thank you thank you thank you to all the Veterans past and present!

Oh and on another Memorial Day note, I did go to JoAnn's today and got a pretty good bounty, one of my favorites is this fabulous Welcomer. Meet Master Chief Merlin (Master Chief as an ode to Memorial Day and Merlin because he is in fact magical!)

Cat Nip and Chew Toys,

Just a quick tale of tails!

I thought I'd share some oh so cute photos from recent custom play pad Happy Tails customers.

Here is little Cami enjoying her super bright and fluffy custom bed -

And believe it or not, these photos are of two different cats, as you can tell they are open to sharing their new bed! -

I'm hoping to make it to JoAnn's tomorrow to make good on the 20% off coupon they are offering for veterans, no I'm not a veteran, but my better half is (PS - he is just too darn cute too!)

Cat Nip and Chew Toys,

Jenna

Extra! Extra! Read all about! A penny a 'pape mister!

Don't get too excited, the heading had nothing to do with the body of this post, I just love the movie The Newsies (Hello young Christian Bale!)

Now on to the real stuff! Just an update on a couple little things that have happened over the last couple of days.
Yesterday I finished up my nieces blanket for her 7th birthday. I came daringly close to keeping it since I appliqued J's on both sides and my name also starts with a J...the blanket was so darn soft and cute...no worries I didn't keep it! Do you spy with your little eye the feline that wanted a photo op?

Here is PROOF that I did not in fact keep it :)

Jessica with her new blanket!
Let's see, we also invested in a slightly used but seemingly very effective elliptical today, I'm hoping to get in shape. Some other shape that what I am now would be nice :) I have a treadmill but I really dislike running so I figured an elliptical could be a good option. Well, once Miss Charlie gives me a turn!

Lastly, little Penelope had to go to the vet today for a check up to make sure all her insides are working the way they are supposed to, she's coming up on her 1 year birthday in July! Well the poor little thing is not a fan of the vet...she gave it her best shot to hide behind dad...

Whew! Now after all that...it's time for a salad, sangria, and some veggie hot dogs!

Cat Nip and Chew Toys,

Lions, Tigers, and Books...oh my!

Who else gets sweet and simple joy and happiness out of reading?

As a child, my mom and I lived across from a public library, and on the other side of us was the beach.
I wanted to spend all my time in the quiet and enchanting aisles of the library, on the other hand, my mom wanted nothing more than to frolic and play at the beach!

Oh the horror! The sand, the huge amounts of people, the sharp shells, the skin melting sun...I put up a fit every time...and 17+ years later I still do!

VS.

But alas, I am (much to some peoples surprise) a grown up, so I can idly walk the aisles of books for as long as I want now. *Woo Hoo*

I used to say that I wanted to live in a library so I'd never have to leave. Now instead of getting arrested for living in a library I made the grown up to buy a fabulous bookcase and display my books in all their beautiful glory. (I should've taken a photo to share but I don't have one on hand, I will update this post later and include it!)

I just started a new book, judging by the cover (yep, I do occassionally do that) it looks pretty darn enchanting, we shall see soon!

What about you? Any good reads to share?

Cat Nip and Chew Toys,

Jenna

Thinks it's about time for the symphony!

Hey, why not?

Couple of weeks ago an email at work went out asking if anyone was interested in two free tickets to the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra. Now, seeing as I am an pretty much an "instant email reader", I would say it's safe to assume not only did I receive/read the email first but I responded with record speed. A safe assumption because within 3 minutes of the email being sent out I had a voucher for two symphony tickets in hand!

Woo hoo!

Now....where are my gloves and black dress?

Now I shall bid you adieu until next time!

Cat Nip and Chew Toys...and violins...

Sunday!! *crying upon realization tomorrow begins another work week*

So I tend to get in an icky mood come Sunday afternoon/evening, my boyfriend and felines can attest to that, so with that being said if I'm not the only one that suffers from the Sunday Sadness Sickness I would love to share something to make you smile even just a little bit.

And of course this photo will include at least one animal...I can't help it...those darn furry (but not always furry) four legged babies will always either crack me up or make me smile from ear-to-ear!

Helllooooo Painted Piggies!

Artistic lil' buggers aren't they? I wonder if they have an Etsy site :)

Okay...so did that accomplish a smile...even a little one?

If not, I'll need to do better next Sunday!

Oh SHOOT! I need to put my clothes in the dryer...
Cat Nip and Chew Toys,

Jenna

It's raining, it's pouring, my cats are snoring...aka...it's bloggin' time!

It's true, you'd think the cats were human beings with the way they sleep, on their back for heavens sake!

So a few things to update today, first off, I have to share with you the shoes I got today when birthday shopping with my mom! (PS - my bday is June 16th - 27 years old this year!)
Who else is a fan of Chinese Laundry shoes?
I found these oh so adorable flats today at DSW - It's kinda hard to see the color but it's a gorgeous dark blue. My feet are very excited about these.

And to add to the other side of the shoes spectrum, my mom and I found these TO DIE FOR Michael Kors shoes as Belk, now shoes that expensive have never laid eyes on my little feet, but I'm happy to say there was a huge sale today. HUGE!
Maryjane shoes is one of my fave styles for heels and was so giddy when I saw these -

Woo hoo! Shoes! Shoes are great, because for the most part, they always fit!

The next and last update for the day is I wanted to share the most recent custom pet pad that I made. This has got to be my favorite fabric and is beyond soft! This was made for a little tiny chihuahua named Kratos!

How fun is that? Though Penelope is only the model (with permission from the people who order them) she did not want to give this one up! I think I'll have to make her a new pet pad in the near future!

So, here's to a fabulous Saturday to everyone, and until next time...

Cat Nip and Chew Toys,

Jenna

Drum roll please...it's time foooooor...Thrifty Thursday!

Well ladies and gentlemen, it's that time again, and because Blogspot is in fact functioning as it's supposed to I can post my cost effective and fabulous Thrifty Thursday today! Woo hoo!

This is BY FAR one of my favorite tutorials I've found online and my vow to myself is whenever I close on my new place (once I am officially under contract!) I will make this because I love it to bits!

So please enjoy and check out Every Day Mom Ideas for this and so many other craft ideas!

Spring Scrapbook Paper Tree

Today I would like to share with you all our newest craft. It's a fun and easy DIY Spring scrapbook paper tree. Tristin and I both love scrapbook paper. We love the large variety of gorgeous patterns to choose from and the lovely, convenient low prices (so you can indulge when needed). But the funny thing is, neither of us like to scrapbook. We are constantly searching for new and innovative ways to use scrapbook paper. Today's feature project is one of them.

Scrapbook paper tree

This simple project uses scrapbook paper leaves to create a bright and cheery Spring ambiance for your home. You could also use these beautiful trees in a wedding, baby shower, bridal shower, birthday party... the possibilities are endless!

What You Will Need:

Scrapbook paper
Branches
Floral Wire (I used 24 gauge wire)
Glue (You can use scrapbook or tacky glue, but I just used good ole Elmers)
Scissors
Cardboard/cardstock/chipboard
Vase or Pot to place your branches in
Newspaper

The awesome thing is - you probably already have most of these supplies on hand. I only had to purchase the floral wire for a little over $1 (with a coupon). What an inexpensive way to bring Spring into your home!

Let's Get Started:

Scraps for Scrapbook paper tree

First, drag out your unseemly healthy assortment of scrapbook paper scraps. If you don't (yet) have a unreasonable amount of scrapbook paper (and everyone should), then just head over to your local craft store - Jo-Ann, Hobby Lobby, or Michaels and pick out your favorites.

Cut out your scrapbook paper leaves

Cut out a template of your leaf from the cardboard (you can also use chipboard or card-stock). I used two different sizes of leaves - one small and the other a lot larger. Try to make the leaves as symmetrical as possible (which I did not realize until later). This will help with pairing up a back and front leaf later on. Using your template, cut out as many leaves as you want. Cut them in even numbers because, again, you will be pairing them up later on.

DSC05622

Take your floral wire and cut strips anywhere from 5"-8" long. I know that's a big range, but I'm taking into account the different size leaves. If it's a larger leaf, you will want a few extra inches of wire.

Making scrapbook paper leaves

Lay down some newspaper next to your workspace. Take one of your leaves and put a thin strip of glue down the center. Place a piece of wire on the glue. Find a leaf of the same size and same scrapbook paper (or different paper- this is your project!) and place it on top of the glue, sandwiching the wire and forming a "vein" down the center of the leaf. Place your newly made leaves on the newspaper. Keep going until you've made all of your leaves.

Scrapbook paper leaves on tree

Now for the fun part! Start placing your leaves on your tree by wrapping the floral wire around a branch. You can arrange them in a natural way (as pictured above)...

...or make them funky.

And you're done! This project is so easy. You can make a huge tree or just make a small, simple one. Do ten of them for an event, or just create one for your humble abode. Either way, take this idea and run with it. You can create some Spring magic using only a few supplies!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So that's it! What do you think, do you think you'll try it out? This project just makes me smile inside and out (maybe because it's a plant that is lovely and that I can't kill...shhh!) I'd love to see it if you try it!

Until next time -

Cat Nip and Chew Toys,

Jenna

Cheap has never been so good!

Well at least in regard to make up that's the case!

Everywhere we look there is the next best thing in make up products and usually the next best thing isn't the best when it comes to your pocket book.

I've bought the expensive (MAC, Stila, Urban Decay, etc.) and the between prices (Ulta, Covergirl, Maybelline) and I've also tried the info commercials selling all natural make up! (I used to have to wake up to get ready for work before REAL TV came on...it's amazing what seems like a good deal that early in the morning)

Then I found the wide world of Etsy sellers who make their own make up, granted some of it can be expensive, but when it came to eye make up it was great! Most Etsy make up shops will offer "sample" packs for you to try and the shadow in the samples will go a LONG way. Not to mention the quality (in all the shops I've bought in) has been outstanding! Check out some great make up shops I've bought from on Etsy (SweetPea and FayRockABettyShiro Cosmetics (no longer on Etsy but has her own site)Torik2009, and Concrete Minerals)

Now, lastly, I found the MOST amazing color combo that is inexpensive and long lasting for lipstick. I have the most difficult time finding lip stick/gloss/stain that will last but I think I've found it!
Please excuse the not amazing quality of photo I promise the lipstick color is richer and brighter in person. The color combo is -

Maybelline - Color Sensational Lip Stain - Bitten Berry (6.49)
Wet N' Wild - Lipstick - 521A (.99)
Wet N' Wild - Clear Lipgloss (.99)

Anyone have an make up loves (or hates) to share? I love me some make up ideas!

Jenna

House Hunting...not to be confused with HGTV's House Hunters

Though if we were on House Hunters, we may be that much closer to having our first place, but as of right now we are in short sale limbo. Has anyone else been in this hellacious limbo land? (Yeah I'm pretty sure it's a real place that you only have the knowledge of if you've been there!)

We made an offer on a condo in short sale status a month ago as of yesterday, and we haven't heard a peep, so we have 30 more days until we satisfy the 60 day required wait time in the contract. If we don't here from the bank by June 15th (PS - that's one day before my BIRTHDAY!) then we can either walk or extend and wait for 45 more days!

In short...blah blah blah blah!

Does anyone have any short sale stories?

And let's not forget Miss Penelope and how patience is not a virtue she possesses. She is done with apartment living and is ready to move on up!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

PS - On a crafty note - I got the most amazing fabric in the mail today that I ordered for a custom pet pad order, it has got to be the softest fleece I've used so far, and let's not forget how darn cute it is!

So until next time.....

I am not exaggerating when I say...Holy friggin' crap!

I passed my exam!!! Ahhhh! And yes I am surprised I did so.

I am in a certification course to be a Veterinary Assistant and I love it, except when I got to the course titled, Calculations for the Veterinary Assistant, *insert cringe here*.

Here's an equation I understand - Me+Math=Death

In short, I passed (barely) and now I can move on to the next course that with any luck doesn't have anything to do with math or any of maths close relatives.

In celebration of this...

I hunted at Joann's Fabrics...check out my hunting gear...it means serious business.

Now it's off to Craftland *insert fairyland-esque music sequence here*

Cat Nip and Chew Toys,

Jenna

Yep, one of my favorites so far : )

I finished up a recent order for a custom pet pad today and it is in fact one of my faves! It's a 26x20 size pad made with a oh so fun and fabulous pink fabric and an equally fun teal fabric on the bottom with a matching monogram and dog bone applique! This beauty is for an adorable pampered pooch named Cami!

What do you think of the finished product?

PS - as always my pet pad model Penelope was happy to pose for the size comparison shot!

The modeling wore her out!

Did you have any crafting/creating plans today?

Hoping your Saturday is fabulous and less rainy than mine!

Cat Nip and Chew Toys,

Jenna

It's Baaaack!

Thank heavens I can blog again! Was it just me or did anyone else suffer blogging withdraws when the site was down? Man...I hope it wasn't just me!

Now, onward and upward, because the site was down yesterday I wasn't able to post a "Thrifty Thursday" post. So this will have to be a belated Thrifty Thursday.

This weeks feature is in honor of, how friggin' hot it is here in Florida, so why not cool off with a Watermelon Pie? Yummy! This delicious find comes from - MakeandTakes.com

Fun Summer Dessert: Watermelon Pie
One of my summertime childhood memories is eating the yummy watermelon sherbet dessert at Friendly’s restaurant. I loved it, so I decided to try to replicate this dessert for my own kids’ summertime memories! I made some “watermelon pie” for our 4th of July feast this year…to great success! My 4-year-old daughter loved it – like mother, like daughter! She saw it in the pan before I sliced it up…at that point it was still just a circle. When I started to cut the pie, making the watermelon slices, she exclaimed very earnestly, “Wow! It’s magic!”

watermelon pie

The best part…watermelon pie was super simple to make! Here’s what I did!
Ingredients:
- Lime Sherbet
- Vanilla ice cream or Pineapple sherbet
- Red/Pink-colored sherbet…I couldn’t find this, so I bought Raspberry/Pineapple/Orange swirl sherbet, mixed it up with red food coloring and it was perfect!
- Mini chocolate chips
Directions:
1. For each flavor, you’ll let the sherbet/ice cream soften for a few minutes before using. The red sherbet should be mixed with the mini chocolate chips.
2. Use a round springform pan. You may want to line the bottom of the pan with wax paper or parchment paper if you plan to transfer the entire “pie” to another dish before serving. I served the slices on plates straight out of the freezer, so I didn’t line the pan. It’s actually cuter sliced!
3. Starting with lime, spread a ring of sherbet around the edge of the springform pan – about 2 inches high (or taller if you want!), and about 1-2 inches wide from the outside edge of the pan.
4. Put pan in freezer to harden lime layer.
5. Repeat step 3 with the vanilla, but make the layer much thinner – maybe 1/2 inch. Use a butter knife to flatten the top, even-ing out the lime with the vanilla. Put pan in freezer to harden again.
6. Repeat step 3 with the red/chocolate chip sherbet. Fill the rest of the pan, then use a butter knife to flatten the top. Freeze!
7. When it’s time to eat, run a knife around the edge of the pan before popping off the outside of the springform pan. Use a nice thin-blade knife to slice.
A funny tip…I served the watermelon pie on paper plates, but wanted to take a nice picture for this post, so I put my own slice on a real dish. It melted SO FAST on the real dish. I couldn’t even get a picture fast enough before it was a soggy mess! Even though paper plates aren’t as cute, the sherbet hardly melted at all. Go with paper!

Spreading My Crafting Wings

So I've decided to add to my open up a second shop, on Artfire.com, granted I've had a basic plan at Artfire for awhile now. Actually, before I even signed up for Etsy, but I just didn't use it as much as I thought I would.

Now, Artfire has stepped up their game a bit and revamped the shops options and all that fun and confusing jazz! It's definitely trial and error, like most things involving the internet, but on the plus side you can import your listings into your Artfire!

Not to mention, they offer a 30 day free trial for the Pro account, so it couldn't hurt for 30 days to test it out!
Well hopefully it couldn't hurt, I guess it's one of those time will tell type of instances, but I'm up for it!

What about you? Have you tried out Artfire or any other site for handmade/vintage/supplies items?

Cat Nip and Chew Toys,

Jenna

FINALLY!! It took the majority of my evening but...

I've got ALL my listings updated to reflect new shipping costs to now include CANADA! Oh Canada!

I am going to give Endicia a try for the 30 day trial to see how I like it, it really is a great program to choose the correct shipping charges to anywhere and unlike Paypal or USPS you can print First Class mail from home! Oh happy day!

So in conclusion -
Canada shipping add
All Shipping updated
AND
New bulleted descriptions in all listings

I feel like I had a pretty productive Etsy geared evening...but my goodness I need to go to bed!!

Cat Nip and Chew Toys,

Jenna

A glimpse inside - Magic and Mayhem

I began my day planning on doing a post about my work space aka Magic and Mayhem but I also want to add a bonus bit to this post!

Bonus Bit -
I was featured (along with other amazing Etsy shops) in a post by Little Miss Cards. Little Miss Cards is having a Coupon Extravaganza and that just sounds exciting to me! For every new follower to her blog, you will receive a coupon code to a new Etsy shop, it's like a rotating store front featuring tons of different types of shops! Not to mention Little Miss Cards has a great blog so check it out!

Now featuring the main event - Magic and Mayhem aka my studio (my studio is 1/2 the space of my office - I had to give the other half to my boyfriend who apparently needs some room too!)

My divine desk! I recently gifted myself a brand new much larger cutting mat but I took these photos a couples days prior to making the purchase!

I'm a note taker, I keep all my orders in this foliage friendly dual clipboard/folder and all my "quick grab" supplies are right there at arms reach!

On the right side I have my go to items (my magnetic pin "cushion" with all the pins I need for the pet beds it comes in handy!) along with my little alter of my fun finds around town. My personal fave is the blue fairy, she's technically for the garden, but I think she fits just fine atop my desk!

My bulletin board, your basic 5 dollar bulletin board at any craft store, transformed into a freaking awesome bulletin board with just a little fabric!

My ever-changing fleece selection displayed nicely by your run of the mill bookcase

Well there you have it, a little peek inside my "happy place", it's constantly changing but the bones of it all are forever there!

Cat Nip and Chew Toys,

Jenna
