MyGlam vs. Birch Box - July - Ding! Ding! Round 3!
Wednesday, July 18, 2012
It's that time of the month again! No...not that time. It's a far more exciting time of the month.
This month I received my BB a lot sooner than my MyGlam bag which is unusual because MyGlam usually gets here quicker and they shipped the same day!
This month I decided to include myself in some of the photos...I think it can get kinda...boring (for lack of a nicer word) to read these review posts with only products pictured. If you think otherwise, let me know, and I'll adjust it next month!
So let's get this sample show on the road!
Birch Box -
Birch Box this month was all about the senses.
Contents - Hello perfume sample by Harvey Prince/Earbuds/Energy Mints/UV Hair Protector Gel/Moisturizer Tint/Mascara (for more info you can see the card above)
The packaging couldn't have been cuter. And bonus...it smells nice! Though on my skin the scent didn't seem to last long...
Pink and blue earbuds! So freaking cute! Unfortunately I don't need earbuds...but I'll keep these handy if I ever need to look super cute and colorful while listening to music.
Mints! Instructions were obviously not included :p
Nothing really special about these...they kinda smell too. And not in a good minty way.
I had high hopes about this little sample. I love mascara/eyeliner samples. Blinc mascara is supposed to form "tubes" around your eyelashes. I am not a fan. It is SO difficult to take off and it doesn't give much eyelash "oomph"
The directions on this tiny tube were SO tiny I could hardly read them. Due to this...I thought it was a spray and it's a serum so I "sprayed" it on my head...that didn't work. Once I figured it out...it really just made my hair oily.
This tinted moisturizer is the worst...only because it is like 3 shades too dark. Fail.
BirchBox Conclusion -
This was pretty much a fail. I contacted the customer service regarding the color of the moisturizer seeing as you fill out their form and give them the very important "complexion and coloring" information. Also after seeing all the boxes people received with FULL SIZE Stila lipstick AND nail polish...I was really irritated because I felt like I was one of the few that got the "box leftovers" - I asked if I needed to fill out my form again. They more or less told me it couldn't hurt to fill it out again and "update" my answers. I checked and my answers couldn't be more current. I'm still fair complexion and I would still "splurge" on nail polish. BIG FAIL for me this month Birch people...big.
MyGlam -
Oh Happy Day!
This months MyGlam theme was Beach Beauty. When I first learned that bit I was apprehensive because even though I live in Florida...I loathe the beach.
Contents - Facial Towlettes/SPF Moisturizer/Hydrating Conditioner/Lip plumper (Full size)/Nail Polish (Full size)
-Nume provided a couple of coupon codes which is always appreciated
-The bag rundown, I appreciate the fact they show the other items that were included in bags, not just the ones you received. It's nice to know without searching what other people may have received
-When I saw the sticker promo card for the nail polish I couldn't wait to dig in!
The bag! How perfect of a bag for the beach theme! Also, you can tell this came at a different time since my nails are completely different from the other photos!
Buxom lip plumper - I am/was happy with the color - Just a kiss of blush pink and the lip gloss texture/quality was nice too. No burning...just a light tingle. A+
Ahhhh! I was sold just based off the packaging!!! And the bright yellow color is pretty great. I will be testing the polish out once I chance out my polish this weekend.
In Florida it's even more important to protect your skin...and if I can protect it and it smell like green apple...that's even better. I'm trying out my Wen Hair System now so I haven't used the conditioner but it smells nice and I do plan on trying it!
MyGlam Conclusion -
Winner winner!! Come on...this was a clear winner.
The cucumber towelettes are terrific and soft and effective. I'll be purchasing those the next time my current towelettes I use run out!
The bag was adorable, the polish is fab, I am 100% happy with each item. Probably because I can use them all!
**************************
I'll give Birch Box a couple more months but so far I am extremely underwhelmed with the big BB.
Do you subscribe to either service? Were you happy with what you got? If you post about please share!

My Glam vs. Birch Box - June Edition
Thursday, June 14, 2012
Hey guys! How is the week treating you?
My week will improve by 100% come 4 pm this afternoon which is when I clock out of work and begin my 3 day weekend!! Saturday is my birthday so I figured it was only appropriate to make it a long weekend.
And for those of you wondering the age that is gracing me...it's 28. 28 years...crazy...when I was a kid I'm sure I thought 28 was ancient.
Anywho, I kind of enjoyed doing a compare/contrast of the MyGlam bag and Birch Box last month so I thought I'd share again!
Last month MyGlam was the winner by a long shot in my book and surprisingly it wasn't such an easy win this time around....
* Birch Box *
This month's theme was your inner jet setter and after seeing some other boxes that went out I'm glad I got what I did. I can't imagine my disappointment if I received self tanner/bronzer my china doll aka Casper skin would've scoffed at such a product.
Miki if you are reading this...when I saw these band-aids I thought of you and your recent post about these!!
I was SO excited when I saw these products! The eye liner and the band-aids...and then the lip stain AND some sweet rose smelling spray. Yes please. Two big thumbs up (big like Tom Cruise's thumbs in Tropic Thunder...that kind of big) for this month's BB! Oh and they sent a neat little sample cologne for men which is nice.

Let's not forget...the stain and the spray were wrapped in tissue paper which was tied with ribbon and cats love ribbon. So if it were up to Charlie and Trixie...BB would win by a long shot this month.
Final verdict - I can't say because I just received the box on Wednesday so I haven't used any of the product yet. Except I tried the stain and I wasn't all that impressed by it. I wouldn't buy a full size I know that much. But at first glance...it is a great box!
* MyGlam *
I failed at taking photos of the "info insert" that came with the bag this month so I don't have any of their product like in the BB photos. BUT I can say this month's bag was a Out All Night inspired bag.
Hellllooooo glitter clutch! This was a new style of bag than the normal zipper pouch and it couldn't have been more perfect for the theme. And to top it off...my nails are gold right now so it was kinda like a match made in heaven.
I was thrilled when I opened the bag. Thrilled I tell ya. Finally...I could use all of these products! It's hit or miss with these curated bags if you'll be able to use any of them.
And Trixie couldn't choose her favorite product either. Though she could have used a better tactic to decide...hers was just shoving everything off the table then pawing at whichever was shiniest.
Final Verdict -
Since I received my bag on Monday I've had the chance to use all the products!
-The Living Proof frizz-ease cream is great...I don't really have issues with flyaways but I love the way it smells and it does what it says from what I can tell.
-The Take a Breath from Purology is magic. It makes my skin feel so fresh and lovely. I may have to shell out the 34 bucks for the full size...maybe...that's a heck of a lot of money.
- NYX Round Lipstick in Orange Soda has an adorable name but is an AWFUL color. Someone told me on instagram that they are using it as an under eye concealer and it works great though. The color I received sucks...yep...but it is a great lipstick. I may try them in other colors because there are a ton to choose from.
- Marbella semi-permanent liquid eyeliner is great. This is the first time I've used liquid eyeliner since I made myself look like fancy skunk as a teen. It stays on...somewhat of a pain to take off...but NO smudging which is amazing.
So Who Won?
This month will have to go to MyGlam again. It was a tough call but what pushed it into the top spot was that I received my MyGlam bag first and had more time to try the products out! And they were sent out within a day of each other! Plus I can't get enough of the Purology moisturizer!!
Did you get one or both of these this month? How did you like what you got?
Talk to you soon!
MyGlam Bag vs. Birch Box
Thursday, May 17, 2012
Hey ladies!
Are you tired of seeing blog posts about Birch Boxes and other curated goods?
I hope not because otherwise this is a completely boring post for you...
I had decided to not be on the BB bandwagon that everyone else seemed to be on. But I had also put myself on the waiting list for a subscription prior to that decision. Not just for BB but for a handful of other curated boxes/bags.
I signed up for MyGlam because it was the only subscription service that didn't have a waiting list!
Last month I got the email saying that I could get my BB subscription...so I took the bait and I signed up!
I can't help it...I love getting goodies in the mail!!!
And long story short...I prefer my MyGlam bag.
Both MyGlam and Birch Box cost $10 per month which is nice. But MyGlam also sends a new adorable make up pouch that holds your samples each month! Yeah...I'm a sucker for packaging.
Okay okay...enough with words let me share some photos.
*Birch Box*
Yep...those are my sweatpants.
As you probably know by now it was a Gossip Girl themed box. The only thing missing from this photo is a elastic headband...aka a shoelace with stretch.
While I wasn't unhappy with the products (Samples of makeup brush cleaner, tinted moisturizer, nail polish, and perfume.) I was hoping for a full size of something...or at least a slightly larger sample size of an item. Maybe that's just me? Did anyone else receive a box with the same items I did?
*MyGlam*
Come on!! How cute is the makeup pouch?
So more samples obviously because it IS a sample subscription! But...there was a full size lipstick. Yesssss! And not just a lipstick...a fabulous one. It's by Studio Gear and it is the softest lipstick I've ever used. (Samples - Perfume..that's it. That was the only "sample) The rest of the items were nail art stickers, two make up brushes, and lipstick.
So I'd be lying if I said the full sizes and items weren't the main reason I kinda prefer MyGlam for this round.
The lipstick!
What do you think about the curated boxes? Are you signed up for any? Or considering any of them? I'd love to hear your opinions and if you received any of the above boxes this month!
Talk to you soon!
